Privacy Policy
This page explains what information this site collects, how it's used, and who else sees it. It's written in plain language, not legal boilerplate.
What this site collects
The only information this site collects directly is what you choose to give it: your email address, if you sign up through the "Join My Team" form, or your name and message, if you post a comment on a project log entry or newsletter archive page. Liking one of those entries doesn't ask for anything — it's just a count. None of this is sold or shared for any other purpose.
Comments also involve a bit of technical bookkeeping you don't see: your IP address is hashed (turned into a one-way scrambled value, not stored as-is) and used briefly to limit how many comments can be posted in a short period, as a spam guard. It isn't used to identify you, isn't linked to your comment, and isn't kept for any other purpose.
Third-party services
This site uses a few outside services to work properly:
- MailerLite powers the "Join My Team" signup form and stores the email addresses submitted through it — see MailerLite's own privacy policy for how they handle that data.
- Google reCAPTCHA protects that signup form, and comments on project log/newsletter pages, from spam and bots, which involves Google processing some technical information about your visit.
- Firebase (Google's app-backend platform) stores comments and like counts, and runs the small server-side function that checks a comment for spam before it's saved.
- Google Fonts are loaded from Google's servers to display this site's typefaces, so your device connects to Google when a page here loads.
- Stripe processes payments for signed copies, entirely on Stripe's own checkout page — this site never sees your payment information.
Leaving this site
Retailer links (Amazon, Apple, Kobo, and others) and the newsletter signup button take you to external sites with their own privacy practices, separate from this one.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in any email you receive, or by contacting me directly. If you have questions about any of this, or want something about your data changed or removed, email me.
